Matting

Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, a person shall not do anything or permit anything be done to an animal that causes unnecessary suffering or endanger the health and welfare of the animal.

Brushing out severely matted dogs can cause pain and discomfort for the animal. In some cases, we will not be able to groom dogs with severe matting. These cases will be referred to your vet. If a dog is severely matted the coat will have to be clipped short.

Regular appointments

Regular appointments are essential for the health and welfare of your dog to reduce pain and discomfort associated with overgrown nails and matting. We recommend your dog is groomed every 6-8 weeks.

Care at home

Daily brushing with a slicker brush should be completed to reduce matting. If you need to discuss a specific home care routine, The Dog Empire can advise on one to suit your dog.

Final cost of groom

The final cost of your dog’s groom will depend on a number of factors including the condition of your dog’s coat, matting, style requested and behavioural issues. Final cost will be provided on the day of the groom.
